Remember that opening scene of the 2001 film A Knight's Tale, where sack-clothed peasants are chanting Queen's We will Rock You! at the opening of a jousting tourney in the foothills of a spectacular medieval castle? That's exactly what it feels like to be at Carisbrooke Castle for this event. Except that instead of baying for blood and fighting over turnips, the peasants today are busy stuffing ice creams and Insta accounts.

There's lots of historical re-enactment bagged up with this event - musicians, craftsmen and various extras from Game of Thrones. But be in no doubt - the jousting here is very serious, and certainly not without real danger for the participants. The setting next to the castle, with grassy banks to sit and watch the action, is incredible!
