Wellness activities on the Isle of Wight
1. Yoga and pilates
Yoga and pilates classes can be taken on a pay-as-you-go basis at the West Wight Sports Centre (alongside aqua-fitness classes, swimming, climbing etc).
There are several local yoga teachers running classes in various locations, including on the beach. Balance and Glo (run by Jenny Stuart) offer weekly drop-in sessions at the Albion Hotel in Freshwater, as well as regular sessions on Compton Beach during the summer months.
Vicky Boswell runs classes at Tapnell Farm Park (sometimes in combination with sauna) and also at Compton Beach. It's a little further to travel to get you stretching in, but there are daily yoga and pilates classes at Ventnor Botanic Garden too.

2. Massage, acupuncture and reflexology
There is a wonderful Shiatsu massage therapist called Takako Owen who operates out of the West Bay Country Club, about a km away from the cottages. She is also a trained acupuncturist.
For reflexology treatments the best place is Well Wood Reflexology in Freshwater (Lucy).
Sports massages by Aidan can also be arranged at the West Wight Sports Centre

3. Forest bathing
For an experience that can be quite unexpectedly moving, we recommend forest bathing or shinrin-yoku, which is the Japanese practice of immersing oneself in nature to reduce stress and increase wellbeing. The practice is about quietly observing one's environment and reflecting in a way that is both profoundly unfamiliar and strangely disconnected to our high-speed and stressful modern lives. Anthea from Forest Bathing Isle of Wight runs sessions in several places on the island depending on the weather, but quite often in a lovely pine forest in Brighstone.

4. Sauna
Slomo Saunas, the sweaty brainchild of former Radio 1 DJ Rob Da Bank, has just uncloaked a 10-seater Lithuanian wood sauna and a four-person 'floating sauna' at Tapnell Farm Park, about 10 minutes from the cottages. Sessions cost £15/hour for the communal experience, and the complex can also be booked privately.
